What is resilience?
Have you ever heard about resilience? In fact, resilience is the ability to maintain calm to cope with stress and hardships. Being resilient, people are able to bounce back from the predicaments. Some of the people might say it is like a trampoline. But no. It’s more likely to be climbing up a high mountain without a map given. Hence, we have to explore further and face all the difficulties with courage. Time, strength and assistance are something needed along the journey.
Why is resilience crucial?
Resilience is rather essential as it gives us a mental strength to be more persistent and brave. Gradually, we could turn out to be successful and overcome all the life challenges. For instance, financial issues, death of loved ones, unemployment and divorce. Those who lack resilience will get overwhelmed easily and soon be disconsolate.
The 7 integral components of resilience
Dr. Ginsburg is a human development professional. He then proposes the 7 C’s of resilience. Each of them plays a salient role in modeling a resilient individual. Let’s find out what the 7 C's are!
1. Competence
Competence is what we call the ability to handle stressful situations. It can be explained as “how”. In order to enhance our competency, we should try to seek golden opportunities and sharpen our skills such as social skills. However, what can we do to hone these skills? One better way to do so is to practice, join training sessions and ask opinions from experts.
2. Confidence
Confidence, as known as self-esteem, is the belief of one’s ability and competence. With self-confidence, we would be more optimistic and notice our strengths.
3. Connection
Connection is the bond with our friends, family and the society. In this connection, we often trust and concern each other. Motivation, support and encouragement are something that will be given to one another through the relationship. Since then, we have a stronger sense of belonging.
4. Character
People with “character” means they have their own personality but not following up with others. They are independent and have individual thinking abilities. Thus, these people would have a strong sense of right and wrong, plus try to empower themselves.
5. Contribution
When people are willing to contribute to the society, they definitely would learn a variety of knowledge and gain experience from it. No doubt, making the world a better place to live will achieve too. Through contribution, people can partake in any volunteer activities or group discussions to brainstorm different ideas for solutions.
6. Coping
Why coping? Generally, people with high coping skills are better prepared to confront hardships more effectively. Those skills consist of stress-reducing skills and social skills.
7. Control
Control means that we should try to control our decisions and actions, hence, making the wise alternative so as to bounce back from life’s challenges. Controlling ourselves from making lush decisions is a paramount factor for all of us in leading a brighter future.

Finally, I would like to put over my writings with a quote by J.K. Rowling. Life is full of the unknown and adventurous. We cannot know what’s coming later on. Thus, just grow up to be a resilient individual!

Hi there! I am Ng Rui from Malaysia. What people often think about me: ambitious, caring, optimistic and diligent.
For my pastime hobby, I enjoy watching TV shows and listening to music. I've been learning to play piano since I was young. I am keen on playing ukulele too^^ Music really stands a part in my life!
For school activities, I take part in Western Calligraphy Club. I could express my daily mood through calligraphy and painting. Another interesting part of me is that I do know some basics of Japanese as I partake in Japanese society before that. I am also active in sports. I love playing badminton and volleyball. Also, I couldn’t deny that I love eating desserts a lot <3
Apart from that, I am interested in psychology and mental health care. So one of my reasons to join this team is to expose myself more about societal needs and meet new people! Outside of school, I love travelling around the world and exploring new things. Looking forward to more adventures ahead!
